“Valdosta Prof” [Louis Schmier Series – #1]

There is this Prof, Valdosta U,
Who blogged his craft – what he would do
To help his edu-history kids
See bigger pix – to life he’d bid –

Them shift from southern ways they’d learnt
Into an adult world – though burnt
Some were, as all of us these days
Have been – “Move on”, “Take hold”, he says.

Grandparents died at Hitler’s hands;
Health issues came his way – he stands
In my esteem high up – his words
Cut through the baffle-gab I’ve heard.

Same trade we worked, though different roles –
He was front lines – a “Doctor” bold,
Who challenged colleagues to surmount
Tradition – held each to account.

I worked in “Student Service” wing
Of our establishment, would bring
Elixir (he would mix with feed)
To students coached with just such need.

My mentor in the craft, taught me
The “What” and “Why” – then set me free
To find my way to help each one
Engage in life, as each would come –

To seek our guidance – what a lark!
Holistic view of life impart
To young folks mostly, one-third not –
“Mature”, they ’cross the grad-stage walked.

So thank-you Louis – now I’ll flog
Your legacy of edu-blog,
That future learners mine right there
Your nuggets – enter U prepared.

Thanks Lord for this.
