“If Frugal And Industrious” “Adam Smith or Adam’s Myth? [“Reflections On Adam Smith's Book An Inquiry Into The Nature And Causes Of The Wealth Of Nations Indianapolis : Liberty Classics, 1981 ”Smith's Intro – p.5]

“If frugal and industrious,
You’ll eat your fill, bequeath to us
Rich blessings from your time ’round here;
So thank-you for the road made clear”.

So Adam Smith had pointed out;
Seven million people, roundabout,
Within his homeland, set to burst
Into the cities (things got worse –

In rural parts), so factories
Would give folks opportunities
To get ahead, or just survive
(Subsistence-like) before they died.

John Wesley preached that way as well –
“Work hard; get all you can”, he’d tell
His congregants, “give what you can –
It’s thrift and industry for man.”

A book of wisdom at the turn
Of century, said one could earn
A living (1900 plus);
No longer true for most of us.

For life’s locked down here more and more,
With info kept behind closed doors
For those with cash – but this is great!
Give free your thought for Goodness’ sake.

No competition for the best –
Like Wesley’s thought to poor addressed,
Or Robert Raines with “Sunday School”
To boost the skill of labor pool.

Great need gives opportunity
For those with mind of Christ to see;
Thanks Lord, I’ll persevere herewith –
Give folks ’round here much-needed lift.

Thanks Lord for this.
