vencido todo (Beaten Down Everything)” (Lk.17-25-37; 1 Cor. 15:24-28; 2 Tim.4:7; Jn.19:30; Is.40:21-38) [Spanish Jerusalem Bible Series - Ephesians sub-series - # 6:10-18]

“How long?” We ask, in worried tones, of Christ –
“How long does this go on? This is not nice,
And I fear I will lose before it’s done
My cash, my friends, my life – though we have won.”

The Spanish have a phrase they use for this –
“manténganse firmes” (just resist)
When put with other phrase the Spanish use –
vencido todo (all is won), excuse –

Cannot be used to leave before the end –
We’re all required by Christ to evil bend
Down to defeat, make room for all to grow;
When all is beaten down, it will be so.

For maybe you have freedom now to walk;
What of your friends and neighbors? Do you balk
At need to lend a hand, their freedom gain?
So on the other side of road remain?

No, you don’t have to solve it all yourself;
But you’re part of Christ’s body, life has dealt
A hand to you, so play it out with skill –
Stand firm; sit tight; hold steady; as you will.

When it’s all done (Christ’s final task), through us,
And universe has seen the end of fuss,
We’ll all be “One”, as we in fact are now,
Though letting neighbors in, we won’t allow.

So there’ll be time to sit around the fire,
And reminisce about all this, inspired
To share how we gave spirit-foes a run
For money, ’fore the race of life was done.

Thanks Lord for this.
