“How Division Drives Economic Expansion (Growth of Opulence)” [“Reflections On Adam Smith's Book An Inquiry Into The Nature And Causes Of The Wealth Of Nations Indianapolis : Liberty Classics, 1981 (Vol.I and II) Book 1, Sphere-Model - Chapter 1E”]

So how exactly does “Division” work?
Smith says three aspects shift, providing perks
To those concerned, as workers niche right down
To single tasks in factories he found –

There’s workers, tools, and managers in place;
Machines (or tools) are simple in this case –
They leverage the work by other two –
Improve tools when you can, or be a fool.

When Adam wrote, he bundled other two,
Which is okay in small shops, as a rule;
To split admin out as a separate task,
Is fine – as long as someone does it, fast.

For labor, what’s the plus? “Dexterity” –
One’s nimble fingers fly too fast to see;
If worker gets one simple task alone,
Then skill takes off, as movements then are honed.

Admin, whoever does it, tightens up
Activities between tasks – smooths the rough
And tumble, poky, nature of the sloth,
To max out labor’s part – like making cloth.

Admin is less impactful of the two
In maxing out production, which shops do
In order to pump up their output’s score –
(Calls management, “Spectator” – say no more!)

Of course, the wages must increase as well,
As Henry Ford discovered – one can’t sell
A car to someone with no extra cash;
It all ties in – so cut the corporate stash.

In agriculture, other factors reign –
Like temperature required for growing grain;
Machines to help in fieldwork (later came);
And season-cycles cut division game.

As more and more division takes a hold
On business enterprises (this book holds),
There’s more and more available to buy,
So “Opulence” increases by and by.

It seems the wages paid for surplus goods,
Must balance with the cost each worker would
Require to purchase surplus from the rest
Of workers, for it all to come out best.

My guess is that’s what Smith is all about –
How does required exchange-rate balance out,
Without some guru making it transpire,
As opulence encounters folks’ desires?

Thanks Lord for this.
