“Mainline Or Sidetrack?” (Mt.13:24-29; 36-43; 1 Cor.15:24-28) [Reflections on Book: Wm.C.King (ed) Portraits and Principles of The World's Great Men And Women Chicago: The King-Richardson Co. 1899 - # 7/100]

When baffle-gab of former times
Is set aside (most of the lines),
Two concepts bide – “Prepare” is one;
“Be patient” (“For your time will come”);

The balance is a rant against
Those miscreants – so-so defense –
The proper sensibilities
Of arrogance, noblesse oblige.

He says that “Character” enshrines
What good you have ’till action finds
How stout you are beneath façade –
“True grit” is road from life that’s sad.

Well, that’s okay, but it leaves out
What Christ’s agenda’s all about –
Defeat of evil – body life
Christ holds together through the strife.

Community is such a pain
(As Veblen points out), which maintains
As heroes those who play the game,
And “Rise above” (take excess gain).

And then they’re viewed as “Best of breed”,
While all the while they’re planting weeds,
Which grow when they have left the scene –
So nauseating this has been.

So where’s the evil in this tract?
For one, “All are the same” – in fact,
We’re not – “King of the mountain’s climb
Perverted is (and waste of time).

Then “Arrogance” and “Pride of place”
Where “Low-lifes are a big disgrace”
To me is shameful in itself,
Like Lazarus – Dives’ ditch of wealth –

Uncrossable the chasm wide
He’d dug with attitudes; besides
Which somehow we can’t warnings hear
To set aside sad views held dear.

So Lord, I’m hearing, “Walk these through,
And spot the ancient attitudes
Apparent in your TCK-
Type culture – are they here today?

“If so, address them tout-de-suite;
Get on with life – new freedom greet,
And celebrate a life renewed –
I’ll power-wash your attitudes.”

Lord, that’s so awesome – thanks a heap –
Lest I those ancient views still keep,
Contaminating life renewed
On Kingdom-layer, with life re-viewed.

Thanks Lord for this.
