“People” [Reflections on Book: Wm.C.King (ed) Portraits and Principles of The World's Great Men And Women Chicago: The King-Richardson Co. 1899 - #23/100]

When “People” are your “Capital”, “Insurance”, if you will,
You’re using resource baked right in to life around you still;
The perils found in “Wealth” and “Cash” as resource to move on,
Are just the same as in the flesh – the “Sea of great despond”.

For evil knows no limits, heeds no boundaries in our lives;
It twists the best that one can know, with myth one can survive
If one will just bow down to it, shift it to center place;
Defining “It” as anything except the God of grace.

For that’s what evil is – just life outside the realm of God –
No matter how configured, it’s just life here on the sod;
Alone, or with some others, kith and kin, or workforce keen,
Without a central place for God, that evil we have seen.

For “Sin” and “Sins” (the plural) are quite different in the tome –
One is the root of other, trees and fruit, which all have known;
Rebellion from Creator is an option given to us,
But so is our return to Him, when we get tired of fuss.

The attitude which flows out from a theocentric life,
Is quite unlike the other, as the day is from the night;
Lord, as I read this item, sort the wheat from all the chaff,
I’m hearing, “evil spirit” garbles truth in samples vast.

The “Kingdom-life” is missing from this picture of the past,
Accepting, as it does, the twisted values first to last
Of Western thought and life as it is known, accepted here
In Canada, as it’s now lived – it’s values less than clear.

Things plod along, then zig to right, when logically they zag,
Creating sense that all is well and good, while in the bag
Is what one needs to make out well – so long as upside down
One lives one’s life with humor – topsy-turvy as a clown.

Thanks Lord for this.
