“Toddlers And Teens” [Sun Tzu series 10 – 1C]

A toddler can step forth a bit,
And teens as well – because of it
They don’t know when to walk away,
But think the bait says, “It’s okay”.

So half aware and half prepared,
As home-supports show half a care,
They step into the rough terrain
Enticed by easy-picking-gain.

Then they get clobbered (how we learn),
In land that’s “Standoffish”, to spurn
A chance to snatch and run today
Instead of walking off – to stay –

Away from times when all can lose
For neither side can make a move;
Take bait and step into the fray?
Half out of cover – you’re the prey.

I heard this novel on CD
Of guy and gal in time of need –
When not a good time to advance,
Best walk away, seize second chance.

As though the storm, the bear, the man
Who’s hunting them with rifle, can
Be viewed as predators to fear –
When prey to each is also near.

At standoff-time not all the facts
Are in, so subterfuge is tact;
The bait presented oh so well,
Says, “It’s okay”, when goal is “Sell”.

Lord Jesus, Herod sought Your life
Before You’d set Your system right;
You said, “I’ll come back and defeat
That fox, for evil one I’ll beat –

“And Herod is not evil one,
He’s just his lackey – satan’s come
To steal, and kill, destroy, and maim;
My eye’s on prize in Kingdom-game”.

Thus “standoff”, “stalemate”, “temporized”,
Seem indecisive to our eyes;
For we want swift decisive wins,
So toss restrictions, chase begins.

If satan backs off, don’t be fooled,
It’s done to polish booty cool –
Entice by threat-abatement tact;
But know for sure – he’s coming back.

We think, “We’re all growed up today”;
We’re really “Teens” and “Toddlers” – sway
Unsteady on our new high-heels;
Enticed by bait that seem so real.

Thanks Lord for this.
