“The Half-Time Speech” (1 Corinthians 2:16; 12:12-30; 15:24-28; 1 Peter 5:8; Romans 12:8a; Matthew 14:25-29; Luke 14:28-33)

As well as “Talk”, the drums and banners scream
Far beyond their use, all that noise can mean
“Here we come; we’ve won; shudder in your place;
Our morale or Ch’i , spirit, fills this space.”

This we see half-time in our locker room –
Coach pumps up his team, drives away the gloom;
Teams and armies three can have spirit damped,
Snatched away, or robbed, by the other camp.

The commander-chief or his generals
Can lose heart as well in the rising swirl;
When his courage fails, sense of mind drops back,
Ways to steer arrays he in battle lacks.

So the lion roars using fear to flush
Prey from hiding place in some bush that’s lush;
If it quiet stays, it will be alright;
If it tries to flee, it will lose the fight.

You are not alone, you are now a team;
You’ve the mind of Christ – that’s what body means –
For the war is His, just one skirmish here;
Rest in Christ alone, don’t respond to fear.

On the Kingdom-layer you now find yourself,
So abide in Christ for he brings His wealth
Of eternity beating back His foes;
He’s aware of all, sense of battle knows.

For He’s unafraid; knows in end he wins;
Once you’ve died in Christ, stepped away from sin,
It’s a whole new game, words themselves make clear –
“It is I, My friends, follow Me, no fear.”

But it’s not just us, it’s the other too –
So remove his Ch’i , as it’s good to do
This before the fight, use resource you have;
You can win the day – heading home, last laugh.

Thanks Lord for this.
