“Punchline Nonsense” [#10/10 reflections on Stephen Greenblatt’s book – Tyrant – Shakespeare on Politics]

The author flips it on its head –
Says, “Without us we’d all be dead;
As unsung heroes of the day
Our power, well used, came into play”.

Lord, these are silly folks indeed,
Whose arrogance their ego’s feed
At sole expense of those around;
They (to their eyes), are heroes found.

They play both sides of fence indeed,
And suck the life from those in need,
While coasting just below the line
Of public notice all the time.

Then once or twice the egg-heads go
To public forums just to show,
“I could do that as well as you,
’Cause I wrote book on what to do.”

We’re all raised by unlikely folks
Who teach us how to be the blokes
They’d like us to resemble most –
“To fail at which you will be toast”.

Well, Lord, of interest was this tome,
Which speaks of evil at our homes,
Which needs to be pushed to the brim,
Lest we fall, tempted, into sin.

Thanks Lord for this.
