“Don’t Fight In A River” [Sun Tzu series 8-1B] (James 4:1-17; Matthew 10:42)

In all these four there’s positive,
And they are mixed with negative,
Especially when there’s water ’round –
When near, go fast to a higher ground.

The plus for one side’s, “Who’s upstream?”
Don’t be down low, for that would mean
You fight the current plus the foe;
Results are bad, which you’ll soon know.

The water slows things down it seems,
So halfway over, battle’s seen;
That’s good for you if you attack,
But not so good when troops you lack.

Backs to the water blocks escape;
At water’s edge, it’s still not great;
Best hit the sunny heights with ease –
Don’t mess with slowness – that’s the key.

To me, of water “Budget” speaks –
Build bridges, dams, assemble fleets;
Diverging rivers has been done,
For war gets cash when war is run.

Which ratchets up the GDP –
When things blow up much more we see;
For economics gets a flow
When war’s declared, and bridges blow.

Lord, this is nuts – that we should count
In GDP, the war-account,
While peacetime aid to help the poor
Is just not done – they’re down the sewer.

For wars are fought for greater gain;
No way you’d put your troops through pain
Unless at end there’s great reward
For those in charge, who make the swords.

Thanks Lord for this.
