“Exile” [#8B/10 reflections on Stephen Greenblatt’s book – Tyrant – Shakespeare on Politics]
Repentance after madness passed
Does not undo the harm that’s cast
Upon an institution there
Through silliness devoid of care.A tyrant, breaking bonds of peace,
To selfish whims on folks release,
May not recover, shock or no,
But on to further madness go.But what if, by some miracle,
Without Olympus’ Oracle,
Or statue coming back to life,
Our day returns from darkest night? Is all forgiven? All forgot?
Can life proceed as if there’d not
Been cataclysm? Boy’s still dead,
And wrinkles cover aged heads.Good insight, Will, I’ll think on that –
“What’s done is done”; “A facts of fact” –
Another side of evil’s ways –
“For sin and madness, other pays”.And like our flood some years ago,
New chance at life is not as though
Floodwaters never came, destroyed;
Some past was lost – we were annoyed. The damage done by UCC,
As chickie-babes assaulted me
All in the name of justice done,
Results for them was just-us won. Thanks Lord for this.
