“The Dance” [Sun Tzu Series #2A] (1 Samuel 15:22; Matthew 7:21; 7:12)

The bagpipes have nine notes to play,
Plus “Trills” good players often say
Are really what it’s all about;
With drones providing base that’s stout.

We think the melody’s the thing –
“Just get ’er done”, “Let’s hear you sing” –
But it’s the blend of notes, and trills,
While drones enable stirring thrills.

So much of Army-life is drone –
The notes are tasks ’fore coming home;
Field officers play out each tune;
The good ones know there’s wiggle room –

“Don’t take that road; route doesn’t work;
To follow there I’d be a jerk;
Traverse that piece of turf? That’s nuts!
Long way is short – no if’s or buts.

“If dog is sleeping, let it lie;
Do not attack – I’ll tell you why –
While not engaged, we take the lead;
We strike, and we’ll most likely bleed.

“Some towns are dead down to the core
Waste time and effort there before
You move on to the living fight?
“Dead bury dead” and take all night.

“The contests best foregone are those
Without your name on them – God knows,
And will instruct you when to fight;
Some battle-fields won’t work out right.

“Sometimes an order’s best ignored;
From government, or sovereign Lord,
That’s why you’re there – best you assess
Big picture’s goals – don’t be obsessed.”

In age of digi-battle-fields,
Big problem comes when it’s surreal –
Drone’s view is one perspective, sure,
But Spirit counters strong allure.

It takes some time to learn to dance
With Spirit-guide, beyond romance
Of being there – so enter in
To life around – then dance begins.

Thanks Lord for this.
