“The Complicators” [#5/10 reflections on Stephen Greenblatt’s book – Tyrant – Shakespeare on Politics]

The witting and unwitting form, a complex Jung would love;
Confusion midst the complex layers of daily push and shove,
All add in parts to brine which make delicious playwright’s soup,
Or what we see from time to time within our local groups.

“Who knows the heart?” The Scripture quotes of Jeremiah’s quip;
“The heart is wicked desperately, who plumbs the depths of it?”
“We talk ourselves into some pact with devil every day”,
Quipped Charlie back in student days – “What’s truth?” heard Pilate say.

Well, this is good for Holy Week; years twenty-two ago,
When SVP played out their game I’d complicators know
As much like this in Richard Three, “Let’s kick him when he’s down;
No skin off us; we’ll go back home; too bad if then he drowns.

Well Lord, there’s no surprise to You; because of God’s own plan,
Which takes and uses archetypes as any person can;
We played our scripted roles just right, just like we always do;
You walked right up the middle, bringing Kingdom into view.

Lord, what I’m hearing in all this is, “Archetypes can be
Quite useful viewing streamed events around us which we see;
Not only are our languages a way to view the world –
Embedded in their many folds are banners folks unfold.

“For we are quite predictable – sense something’s out of sorts –
It fails to flow predictably – like toads without their warts;
Subconsciously, here on the earth, or up on Kingdom’s layer,
We sense the shifts of unseen hands, in intercessor’s prayer.”

Lord, that’s astounding, yet I hunch there’s multi layers here,
All inter-weaving in each one, affecting outcomes clear;
We may know some of these quite well, but “Foreign archetypes
Are threats to our survival, which give rise to Babel’s fights.

Lord, thanks for all this insight, for Will Shakespeare and his guys;
Thanks for the printers through the years who’ve passed on insights wise;
Thanks for Your patience with our sin and silliness each day,
And for Your Kingdom-layered-life where we can learn to pray.

Thanks Lord for this.
