Second John
1:10 – household excommunication – hospitality was a Christian virtue at the time – how harsh this is – and how urgent the crisis he sees. What trash gets into our homes?
1:9 – "having the father and the son" note his comments elsewhere in gospel and first letter regarding having the right orthodox statement but being lacking in love (of the practical kind).
1:12 – face-to-face – no substitute for face-to-face meeting – "all life is meeting". With God and with man. Fullness of joy comes out of that – cf. "community and communication" and the need to rebuild community if communication is to take place.
