“Still Life” [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #92]

It’s not that history repeats,
But more, of that new think old is neat,
And pull it from the salvage pile,
Then prop it up to make folks smile.

The Renaissance thought that of Greek
And Roman artifacts – would seek
Them out, and then would hold them up
As pure, unspoiled, or good enough.

Antiques on Roadshow draw a crowd;
Then TV viewers, often wowed
By bargains swelled to obscene price,
Will dig through stuff for something nice.

’Course we could live quite well ’round here
From garbage bins – folks like to clear
Their junk and trash it (still with life),
For newer models, clean and bright.

“Still life” indeed exists today
In what we trash or throw away;
As digital from analog
Gave landfill sites a techno-clog.

Lord, old designs creators made
(Both you and later workers) laid
Out ways to view things beautiful,
With clever strokes quite magical.

Now we appreciate anew
The output early workers do;
Incorporate, adapt designs,
To generate the new as “Mine”.

Thanks Lord for this.
