“Democratizing Media” [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #94]
Way back in nineteen eighty-three
I came to town with vision – free
The media from corporate hands,
Both here, and off in distant lands.’Twas video that carried freight,
Though digital could hardly wait
To crash the party, spread it all
Across the spectrum – warts and all –For digital has detail sharp;
Techniques and tools to leave one’s mark
Upon the world; so DIY
Has taken off, and now can fly.Whole Earth, the catalog back then,
Inspired us all – conventions bend –
New uses make for everything –
“Age Of Aquarius”, now sing!Design of all types truly is
In people’s hands – from games to biz;
Though jobs have crashed and burned around,
New vistas open – now are found –As people settle in to learn
New complex skills, with which to earn
New wages from exchange of crafts;
Democracy – exceeds the past.Thanks Lord for this.
