“Point To What Is Absent” [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #93]

Two phrases of this outlook came
From French philosophy – the same
As we see elsewhere – twenty years
At end of century of tears.

First phrase was, “Deconstruct” as in
Tear things apart from what they’ve been,
And let them flow on garbled page
As wisps of thought – subconscious phrase.

The second, more original
To philosophes’ intentional
Reflections, said that pointing to
The absent aspect told the truth.

Like “Spearing” in a hockey game –
Unseen by ref, to others plain,
Attention brought – response was seen –
So penalty for that is mean.

The cause of war; abuse unseen;
Inspires young scholars, senses keen
But shallow – go back one more layer
Or two, there’s much more to declare.

Intuitive designs for first;
While “Absent” can depict the worst;
So both of these forms of design
Give lots of treasure one can mine.

Thanks Lord for this.
