“Third Round Ahead?” [Cancer-2 series]

I got a note the other day,
Not much new doctor had to say
Except, “Come by for good-by chat,
For we’re discharging you” – and that –

Is good and bad news – like the vets
Who treat the cattle – silent, yet,
A friendly slap on its behind
Says, “You’re okay ’till day they grind –

“You into meat as table fare”;
I now recall a doctor there
Said, “Radiation slows things down
’Till some affliction comes around –

“And you die off some other way –
Not on our watch, or on this day.”
So hey! Two decades ’bout the sum
I can expect ’till life’s all done.

So farewell chat? It’s follow-up –
Way down the road – that part is tough –
We’ll meet again if things go well
In other ways – yeah right – that’s swell!

At any rate, thanks for that tool
You showed me, Lord, now that is cool –
Symbolic of “One hour and ten”
Split fifty-two of work, and then –

A break of seventeen to do
Whatever else than pleases you;
It matters not how many groups
Of structured time in daily loops.

For one, or twenty-one each day,
Is maximum for all to play
Out – for who gives a care, that’s max
Efficiency – kickback – relax.

I like its flexibility –
Do one, do ten, it’s plain to see
It is a tool to maximize
The things I choose to real-ize.

Yet as things grind down to a halt,
Or better days (like Uncle Walt –
Had in his prime), come here, O Lord,
I can fulfill assigning word.

So lady, yes, I’ll come, I guess,
And hear you out – but nonetheless,
I carry on with God’s new tool –
Efficiently, as Christ’s old fool.

Thanks Lord for this.
