“From Carnivals To DVDs” [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #84]

From carnivals’ cost-cutting shtick,
To shine on DVDs, while picked
Up by the counter-culture folks –
Split-fountain of the whimsy spoke.

Four-color process costs a lot –
Four times as much – so cutting costs
Led circuses to dab-in ink;
Press “fountains” spewed the vital link –

Between the “cheap” and “whimsy” codes,
So civi-folks were sure to know
Of fun and games – the color-splash
Fanned to a rainbow; silkscreen’s dash –

Of color had the same effect;
In hands of some it posters wrecked,
But others used it carefully –
Four-color work that mimics “free”.

The a rainbow-sheen of CD discs
Picks up the image – few can miss
The message-flow between the two –
As “Whimsy” echoes with the “New”.

Thanks Lord for this.
