“Intentionality” [Reflections On Book - 100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #68]

For hours we labored in each class –
Pin-registers, thing of the past,
Used to align our color-scans
In ways which hid how colors can –

Be used in combo, mixed and matched,
To generate illusions vast;
So long as tiny dots of ink
Lined up – it made observers think –

Much more was hidden in the pix
Than really was – great set of tricks –
For depth was, in reality,
As thick as ink – though seemingly –

As deep as infinite in pix,
Or overlapping objects, fixed
Within the frame of print or screen –
What games we played – for we were keen –

To push the limits of our tools;
’Course now, it’s digital that rules
The role of graphic arts today,
And “Layers” boost the games we played.

Figure and ground, and colors burst
In all their glory – artists thirst
For even more ways to be bold,
Conveying life which they behold.

Lord, thanks for color, light, and dark;
Thanks for careers we can embark
Upon to share Your words to man,
And woman, living in this land.

Thanks Lord for this.
