“ ‘Three’ Works” [Reflections On Ronald B. Tobias’ Book 20 Master Plots Series – #5/7]

“Two’s company and three’s a crowd” ;
Aware we are of this – for loud
It speaks to all of tensioned time
We all have had of pain and grind.

New people grow the mixes fast –
In geometric curves which cast
A burden on a writer-team
To clarify what each one means –

To each, like, “Why does she or he
Do this or that? I cannot see;
Or hold it too many in my head” –
So simplify what’s done or said.

“Triangles” work for characters,
Events; and plot-points register
As balanced to each reader’s mind –
Fail once; then twice; then win third time.

It’s action which depicts the plot,
And character – it’s not just talk,
Unless the talk an action is;
Just ramble ’round and book will fizz.

An absent person or a scene,
Can play a character – which means
We need to think of incidents
And characters were both make sense –

But only when in retrospect,
We view the whole, so don’t neglect
To wrap things up – but not too soon,
Or folks get bored – give mystery room.

Decoding culture works like this –
“Now why would they do that? Insist
On actions seeming also strange –
Ah! Now I see – they’re not the same”.

So, “Characters” bring “Plots” to life,
As “Scenes” unfold – bring dark to light,
Until we “Get it” in the end,
And meaning we then comprehend.

Thanks Lord for this.
