“Faith And The Past” [Reflections On Dwight Sermon #1/3 Regarding Faith]

Young Joseph was the model for his thought
(Though can’t pass on more info than we’ve got) –
“Let go your past so you can do your thing;
Don’t into present, future, grievance bring.

“Remember God the Father swats the flies;
A task mankind does poorly – let it lie
At foot of throne of God; get on with life
(Christ took the hit for it, that darkest night –

“So it’s already thrashed out in the past,
When Jesus got arrested, life got trashed
Upon the cross that Easter-morning-one –
Pre-punished your tormentor is, my son.

“Sometimes God needs you to rebuke the fly –
Say, ‘Knock it off, and here’s the reason why –
It hurts; it’s big; unjust; and out of line –
Now I drop all revenge, keep what was fine’.

“That’s when God lifts the burden, sets you free;
Of course the same applies to you and me –
So try it – face your past; the evil done;
And when you’ve been a target of their fun.

“ ’Course, if you’d rather go and pay the price,
Result is not the same (nor very nice);
That’s either way, so take a hint from me –
Trust past with God, and live in Jubilee.”

Good point, O Lord, and good he brought to mind,
Our journeys to this point – freed to be kind,
As you equip us to engage the foe –
Supporting other people as we go.

Thanks Lord for this.
