“Enamored With The Petals”

Enamored was that teenage boy that day –
His mouth agape, enthralled he stared her way;
His hormones had arrived – ’twas plain to see;
Reminded me of when that boy was me.

Quite unaware of show he there displayed
For us at lunch – six others were arrayed
Around that table – it was hard to miss –
His thralled appearance, food untouched in bliss.

No doubt he’d been that way in life before –
Perhaps enthralled by gadget he’d adored;
But this was different – this was adult game,
Although dynamics work, at base, the same.

Take lusting for a job, career, or place
Beneath the sun, or corporate triumph case;
We’re so caught up in driveness within,
When it aligns with context we are in.

We’re unaware of specter we display
To those around, or how, by light of day,
We’re subject to manipulations brash,
Agreeing to comply with tasks when asked.

The Venus flytrap uses color, scent,
To lure the bugs around into its tent –
“Just set a spell, drink a deep my nectar clear”
It says to all and sundry passing near.

Then, snap – too late the predator is prey;
Soon bone’s ejected in a clean-stripped way;
I love the way Christ Jesus played on that –
Used “Golden Rule” as lure into His trap.

For purpose of the law is to make clear
That drives in us, or others, cost us dear;
Alluring, but impossible to live,
The Golden Rule sums up what Bible gives.

“I am amazed at how we’re dragged around
By past encounters – good and bad are found
To be the base of what we want in life,
But cannot have, which generates our strife.”

So spoke a woman when she played it out –
“How can I gain my freedom? What’s the route?”
“Oh! Now we have real issue on the plate,
For now’s the moment – place? Your starting gate”.

Until we see the issue, we’ve no clue –
World’s wisdom shows us what we need to do,
But it won’t work – it’s dust within our hand
We’re left with, just before we understand.

Success is what we strive for, lust to be,
So much that people’s needs we cannot see;
Or who they really are beneath the garb;
Or that the hook in petals has a barb .

Thanks Lord for this.
