Letraset” [[100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design Stephen Heller and Veronique Vienne - #62]

A boon it was to us back when
Computers were not ’round;
In school they jazzed our title page,
First plastic – traced around.

My ruler had a set built-in,
A pen-slot traced each one;
A “pin set” circle guided us,
Quite cool when we were done.

Then came the stick-on “Letraset
(Some others went before);
I made the titles for some film
Work, type-set then took o’er.

I well remember “Joy” who sold
The Letraset accounts;
First time I’d seen real sales up close –
“Persistence is what counts”.

I bought a set quite recently
To modify his sign;
Not needed (yet) but I knew how
To modify design.

But all good things come to an end,
It’s obsolescent’s way;
Until things crash and burn someday
Such things our thoughts convey.

So much is placed on glitz these days,
Far more than quality;
Oh well, each generation needs
To get new ways to be.

Thanks Lord for this.
