“All My Rabbit Trails” (Psalm 139:1-6) [Jerusalem Bible Spanish Series]

He chose this Psalm to start our year
(Transitioning), and made quite clear,
A congregation knelt in prayer
Could go somewhere as rural fare.

He said that prayer was base for life
On Kingdom-layer, or pinwheel striped;
Without it we would disappear,
And lose this place, that was quite clear.

I followed text in Spanish tome,
In which I’m now much more at home;
When I re-read this passage, though,
I had to laugh – God knows me so!

I checked the words on Google tool –
Enriched so much, as nuance pooled
Into a set of verses clear,
Which spoke to me of coming year.

One line especially caught my eye –
Three-b, last word – with humor rye,
The poet David said, “God is
Familiar with your modern biz” –

For “footpaths” (sendas Spanish word),
Describes my ways – in that I heard
I zip around at this and that,
Lose focus, trip and go Ker-splat.

It’s like God sees me rise at dawn,
And knows the way I look upon
My days as flitting all about,
And smiles – “quite busy, with no route”.

Well, Jesus, here I am this morn;
My rabbit-runs now nicely worn
Into the lawn of life ahead;
Please guide me – for the psalmist said –

“God knows our thoughts and actions quick”,
So maybe if with You I stick
In prayer throughout this winter day,
Your Spirit-guide could lead the way.

For preacher-man said, “There’s the fun,
As you on daily errands run –
He’ll meet you when each day you rise,
And use such times to your surprise”.

Lord, thanks for Spanish term today,
For “rabbit runs” describes my way
Of doing life – to date at least;
May each step taken prayer release.

Thanks Lord for this.
