“Tell Me One Verse You Know” [Spanish Church Series] (Luke 14:7-11; Proverbs Chapter 31; John 1:1-18)

I showed my Spanish Bible to a friend
She looked, then gave a word to comprehend:
“Tell me one verse you know that’s from this book”
Quite shocked I was – then point she made, I took.

Back in First Baptist he had said, “Let’s learn
First part of John, so brownie points you’ll earn;
I thought, “en español”, but there it stopped,
As after church I left, to home I walked.

But here she was – “Just say one verse for me”
I couldn’t think – stress rising – “Spirit, please –
Show me how I could answer what I know,
So not just fancy book to her I’d show”.

I laugh with Your response – with multi-layers –
From Luke fourteen, eleventh first, where players
Sought out the seats which status helped for each
And Your response, Señor (for us You teach) –

“Just show the verse you’re working on today –
Se ensalza” – “humillado’s” way,
And how ser: is used, not “estar” verb,
Because we change so slowly, once we’ve heard.

My pride, O Lord, is still right at the top,
Though to my mind in years gone by it’s dropped;
It’s still too big for You to have Your way
In anything through me You wish to say.

I know the theory – living it’s the thing
I cannot do outside of You, so sing
Along the best I can, exuding pride
From every pore – for that we cannot hide.

Thank You for showing me a better way –
That sentence in the cover – let me say
“What word would be for you – as this for me?”
“A woman virtuous – I pray you’ll see”.

O Lord, that was amazing – fast and clear;
Now in that context I can work, no fear;
For from that motivation she takes pix,
And in such teaching “self” for her’s not blixed.

For here she gives an instance of that text,
By which my understanding now is blessed;
I’ll ask her how “Photography” fits in
Or “Nurse’s life” so victory she’ll win.

It gives me that for which to pray each day –
That she be open to the Spirit’s sway;
Lord, that is awesome – thanks so much for that;
And challenge you held up to me, in fact.

For, “Will you learn those Bible verses, Stu?
Or, “even one” as woman asked of you?
You enter in so fast, then fizzle out;
Perhaps restraint’s a better future route.

Lord, I’m not sure, but half and half I am –
Encourager and giver-finance man;
Administrator third (which trips me up);
A tweak’s required – internal balance stuff.

But now I hear, “Remember body, Stu –
In this and other things you’re asked to do;
For body-life starts here – requesting aid,
That future plans for ways and means be laid.

Thanks Lord for this.
