“The Dominoes” [Reflection on Larry Winget’s Book – You’re Broke Because You Want to Be, Poem #5, Chap.4]

The business is not first to go,
It’s us – because we do not know;
And “research”, like a smaller fish,
Can’t swim as fast as we might wish.

“I’m here because I do not know”
Is slogan for all science, so
It stands to reason it describes
Our life on roller-coaster rides.

We earn; we spend; we do not save,
Until some jolt’s tsunami wave
From epicenter rings on out,
Destroying everything about.

What causes jolt to dominoes?
Why, “Pressure builds”, which we all know,
But think our fault-lines bide for aye;
It’s “Human nature” that’s the “Why”.

And human nature, Good Book says,
Is passed along as out it plays;
So raise the income, drop expense,
And hold some buffer for defense.

As pressure slowly built, it will
Now dissipate (our thinking’s swill) –
So start today, and ease ’er back;
Postpone the crash – shift red to black

If you are two, that’s both not one –
Find ways to have some freebie fun,
And pay the piper – no more debt;
Just knock each flat with what you get.

Stupidity’s endemic here –
Our silliness to all’s made clear
By where we’re at – “Outside looks good,
But inner core is rotten wood”.

So, Lord, it’s up and up from here;
The road ahead is rough, that’s clear;
But hey, it worked, let’s push on through
And do what we know how to do.

Thanks Lord for this.
