Yesterday’s Culture

Yesterday’s culture, (tomorrow’s not made) –
Gifts to the future, foundation that’s laid;
Here in our present from earth we bring forth,
Treasures for living – of infinite worth.

Treasures take people to see light of day;
Treasure and people in vivid array;
Infinite richness with dazzling form,
Bring in tomorrow’s suggested re-form.

Three billion people will add to the set;
Three billion minds which we’ve not had as yet;
Insight and spirit, emotion, and life –
Tally is high, but that tally’s not right –

Three billion’s “net” over decades of life;
Many will die, their replacements bring life
Into our village out here in this globe;
More than three billion to help with this load.

Sure, the economy’s shifting that way,
Time that it happened – let all have their say;
All at the table; and all with their jokes;
All as God’s children; “’tis good’” what God spoke.

We’re xenophobic, all cultures can be –
“If you’re not of us, then trouble there’ll be”;
We can get over, around that, or through –
“If you’re not of us, well, how do you do!”

Yesterday’s culture is ground where we stand,
Is the foundation God laid for this land,
So we can build one for kids growing up,
On which to stand as they reach for the top.

Infinite changes; Kaleidoscope bright;
Infinite people to join in the fight;
Fight? Against evil, and darkness, and loss;
Fight for the future, regardless of cost.

It doesn’t matter the choices folks make;
Step to the future whatever it takes;
Pessimists bore me, though I understand,
How cynics get there (when walls ’gainst them stand).

Come now my neighbors, let’s pick up the load;
Step to the future, for here lies the road
Beckoning footsteps, for that’s what road’s do –
Live there awaiting such service for you.

If there’s no roadway, no path, or no trail,
Pick up an axe and create one – prevail –
There’ll be tomorrow if you sally forth,
Roadways and pathways to beckon – of course.

Thanks Lord, for this.
