"Shoot To Voice" [Reflections on Chris Orwig's Book Visual Poetry - Chapter 4: 7-15] (John 10)
When it comes to your equipment, shoot to voice;
All technicians get to choose, so make your choice;
Try some out, then find your way;
With your voice be sure to stay;
Flash and lights may play a part – if so, rejoice!Lenses come in wide array from wide to zoom;
Telephoto, macro, micro – fill a room;
With the newest on the block,
Read about the camera talk,
Then select the lens that makes your pictures boom!Super lenses that are fixed will teach a way
To create with skill and care most every day;
You must move, therefore you’ll see
Compositions which can be;
Added power boosters to the things you say.If dyslexic, you’ll do well with camera work;
Zoom and move, it maximizes where you lurk;
If you stay just in one spot,
Grabbing what your viewpoint’s got,
You may generate a T-R’s knowing smirk.Macro lenses get us into picture frame;
Looking closely shows our world is not the same
As we think of it from far,
Thinking up what details are;
Close-up photos give us views which will remain.With a “whole sky” lens you’ll catch all passing clouds;
Move in closer, shift to vertical and crowds
In the center of your frame
Come alive – no more the same –
Fish-eye lenses let you go beyond “allowed”.When the angle’s wide you need some leading lines;
Sense of scale can help your pictures be refined;
Foreground anchors pictures well;
Background context story tells;
If you use it with control then you’ll do fine.You must work to make the normal lens perform –
View of world seen through this lens – it is the norm;
Middle-C of lenses bought;
Blue-jeans-common in the lot;
Use it well and it can take the world by storm.Zoom with telly, and compression rules the day;
Use the background as the key to what you say;
It will blur, but present be;
Colored shape and form you’ll see;
Nicest people-pictures that can ever be.In the end choice all comes down to who you are –
What’s your voice? What do you say in pix by far?
Use the tools that work for you,
In expressing point of view,
And your pictures will have punch, not be at par.Thanks Lord for this.
