"Things Hidden"  [Reflections on Chris Orwig's Book Visual Poetry - Chapter 4 - 1] (Psalm 121)

I thought at first with digital the magic had all gone,
For science touts its prideful marks on walls of triumphs won;
But that’s illusion – back in days when simple were the ways,
The magic was accessible like early auto-days.

But even then the magic of the process all could see;
They tried their hands at “simple things”, soon learned that few could be
Magicians turning lead into gold, as prints emerged so bright,
Now magic’s not accessible – for most it’s out of sight.

For all can do the simple stuff – it’s “automated skill”
That’s far beyond what all could do before applying will;
But if you want to base-camp reach from which to press for top,
It’s at the top of yesterday – a climb ahead you’ve got.

But on the hill as mists roll in, few Everest will know;
Most are content to drive the “Road to Sun” – those pictures show;
When few could climb the lower peaks, left Everest alone,
The magic was accessible – with darkroom in the home.

I hear an invitation to press on, lift eyes and see,
Mount Everest is where it’s at – tomorrow what will be?
Back then Andreas Fenninger asked, “What’s your focus, friend?”
Now even more we’ll focus need as mountains we ascend.

Thanks Lord for this.
