Relief Valve
I had to go to Winnipeg to let the pressure out,
For people in large quantities deplete without a doubt;
My small resource to do my part’s already stretched a lot,
Since basement flood last year destroyed the flooring that we’d got.When on the edge, or on the line, with buffer all used up,
There’s little bounce to handle all those crises – it gets rough,
Because you’re using muscle, bone, not energy on hand,
Which interferes with the long-term task, erodes it like the sand.So yesterday it got too much, You said, “To Winnipeg –
Just hit the road, go over there, stand on the other leg –
Too much of one thing drains you down, keep balance in your life,
Especially in areas you’re low in, things are tight.It was not perfect, but a book-tape on the radio,
Gave something else to think about, a novel on the go;
When I got there, a change of scene, just browsing in the books –
Who knows what was not here to drain me further, for what took –Me from – direction of that path, kept it from growing large;
Like Jesus did so long ago, when path was getting hard,
Because it was just not on task, “Let’s push on, boys” he said,
“For preaching is My central task, away My Father’s led.”Thanks for relief-valves in our lives; for Father-God who cares;
Thanks for Your guiding Spirit, Lord; time-out to make repairs;
Thanks for the way You keep us out from under building load;
Thanks for diverting book-tapes with their stories on the road.Thanks Lord, for this.
