An Upside-Down Mother’s Day
Chrysanthemums? “Autumn” in China they say,
Seventeen centuries treated this way;
Insect repellent, and garnish at times;
Steamed, they’re a salad, a plant that’s sublime.Some think they’re somber with echoes of grief;
Some think they’re brighter with joyous relief;
Rainbow of colors in splendid array;
Honor to mothers for Ausies today.Down in Australia it’s autumn right now;
Soon they’ll have winter, but flowers allow
Mom’s day in “autumn” – but we’ll wait a while,
Then let chrysanthemums bring us our smile.navigation
