Transition(“s”) (James 5:2; 1 John 4:18)

Graduation packs its punch
In those moments ’fore the lunch
(Dainties and a little glass
Sustenance for lad and lass).

Sustenance is needed, for
Challenge lies at next day’s door –
Leaving “Mr.”, “Mrs.”, “Miss”,
In the past, with childhood’s “dis” –

Adults dump on kids to keep
Them in line – today you’ll reap
Harvest rich from journey tough;
“Knock it off” – that’s quite enough.

Knock it off? The “s” in “scared”
Reason why the title’s there –
Make you scared, protect some place
In society, in case –

You should notice clothes they wear
Are invisible – they’re bare
As the day when they were born
’Neath the adult costume worn.

Scared without initial “s” –
When removed it is not less,
But it’s more – you cared today
To join in our adult fray –

Now you’re in our sandbox too,
Just like back before your school
Sliced and diced kids into “class”
(Thank your Lord all that is passed).

Knock it off now – “s” from end
Of your feelings – brain-power lend
To the task which we’re about –
Caring – you’re grown up – no doubt.

Welcome to our world, my friend;
Glad you chose your back to bend
To this part of adult mess;
Use our names – and drop the “s”.

There’s a lot of work to do;
Apprenticeship which follows school
Gives us time to share with you,
Tricks of trade on use of tools.

Poet Keats at twenty-three
Was quite dead – he had TB
Don’t avoid the scary stuff
Drop the “s”, engage what’s tough.

When it comes to title’s use,
Never use to “dis”, abuse;
Use it to build up, empower –
Strengthen folks to face their hour.
