Have You Met My Sister, Friend?"  [#29A]  (Mark 3:31-35)

Around the church in early days,
“Hey brother, sister”, some would say,
Like label for relationship –
Quite shallow soil because of it.

King Jesus had that problem too –
“Your mother, brothers, come to You;
They think You’re nuts – what should we say?”
“Invite them in, but this I say –

“If you would use that label fine,
Presume to be a kin of mine,
Then do God’s will – then you are in;
All else defines for us what’s ‘sin’”

I use that term advisedly –
When in your life I come to see
A life that centers on the Lord
As you live out what you have heard.

Is that about success for you
In all you think, or say, or do?
Why yes, but in specific ways –
“Fall short of mark” is what “sin” says –

As it’s about an arrow’s flight
From bow to target – string pulled tight
And then released – then it’s too late;
Though you should miss, don’t hesitate –

To shoot, then shoot, then shoots some more –
You learned to walk across the floor
By practice, reaching for those hands
Of parents who could understand.

So here again – you aimed your shot;
And your result? Not what you thought;
But once aware, correction made –
Says “sister” of this winsome maid.

Some targets beg another try;
Some disappear – strange reasons why –
But in the end God knows the score
And honors those who God adore.

So soldier on – one month now passed;
Think big indeed – like Christ in past
Said, “Push out now into the deep;
You fished all night, would like to sleep –

“But trust Me, what I have in mind,
Is big – so big it is the kind
Of gift you would not dare to dream,
Save for the fact you’ve “sister” been.
