"The River Of Love"  [Module #29B]  (Mark 3:20-35; Luke 7:1-50)

I get it – don’t just talk the talk, when mentoring the troops;
But demonstrate, and show them how – by ones, and twos, and groups –
You healed the sick, and cured the lame, made blind folks see the light;
You raised the dead, drove demons out – and did it in plain sight.

And that was done for real, of course, not just to train folks up;
You sent them out right after that and said it would be tough;
First training mission for the twelve once they’d been helped to see
Potential in the lives of folks in each community.

So too for us, as we mature and move on out to teach,
And help our mentees gain the skills, and tools to others reach;
“Catch and release” as fishermen, add value to the stock
Of humans in the towns you work, and on the roads you walk.

I’ll bet their heads were spinning then – for us it’s more dilute –
We drive folks to the hospital, have food banks here to boot;
We have a social safety net which covers all but death,
Which we ignore (give comfort though) and move on to the next.

Conservatives are left with prayer and praise to God above;
The liberals act socially, express that way God’s love;
Enlightened ones do both today, but Jesus You did more –
You healed the sick, and raised the dead, which makes for better score.

Oh well, at least we hear Your words through actions in Your life –
“Do more than talk, get out and do, so they will copy right;
If all you do is tell them how it’s best to show God’s care,
They’ll go and tell the folks they meet, who’ll pass it on from there.

But who will do the works God wants to do among our kin?
“Not I said cat, nor pig, nor dog” in book the chicken’s in;
So take it now upon yourself to walk the talk right now,
Then those you teach (and you yourself) will show God’s love somehow.

’Cause those who’ve been helped most will tend to love more in their turn,
Forgiveness is a gift from God which none of us can earn,
But granted it, we tend to cut the other folks some slack –
Love shown to us, like flowing stream, flows on and shows no lack.
