"Emergent-scene" [Gross and Shapiro - Tao Of Photography- Reflections - pp.28-29]

While focus helps us see, it blinds
Us to whatever’s in our minds;
Whatever’s best that we might see
Is from our spontaneity.

“Right brain” that is – it’s built before
We go with camera through the door
To take a picture as we meet
Whatever we’re now set to greet.

It’s not that right brain is the best,
It’s more it has a kind of zest;
Yet tire it out, the well goes dry,
And takes some time to fill – so I –

Have learned to pace myself with it –
Like writing novels while I sit
In front of keyboard, screen, and mike,
I steward chapters which I write.

But yes, spontaneous works best;
With training passed I leave the rest
To what emerges from a scene,
Then move beyond where I have been.

Thanks Lord for this.
