“That's It”  [Reflections on Chris Orwig's Book Poetic Photography]- Intro (Matt. 7:7-12)

That’s it for that book – time to change;
I’ve mined it down both shaft and range,
Until I’d found the parts for me –
It’s time to shift my gallery.

Chris Orwig wrote a tome to me
About, get this, his poetry –
He writes in photos – now that’s cool;
His book’s a workshop more than school.

He’s done it in twelve chapters, like
His Brooks course; thanks God for the light;
Has interviews; assignments too;
Says slow right down, let this book soothe.

Though not enamored with his craft
(“Augmented Text” – plain photos past),
I like the way he thinks about
Photography – from Brooks, no doubt.

The road not taken, Brooks, a school
For photo-work, so this is cool;
I’d like to teach what I would learn,
And mine this book, not credits earn.

I’ll do it in twelve double-weeks
From “I” to “T”, each week I’ll seek
What’s held within one chapter, then
Make poem AT style to blend –

His chapter’s task with my desire
For AT help – inspiring fire;
For, “School is not to fill a pail
But light a fire”, to tell my tale.

“If only I had gone to Brooks”,
I’ve often thought (alas!), but look!
Here’s part of it before my eyes –
It’s here in autodidact guise.

Thanks Lord, for this.
