"Joined At The Cross" (Carroll - Reflections on Constantine's Sword #2) ()

“We’re joined”, he says at end,
“As Christians and as Jews,
By cross that separates
As two opposing views.”

He says the RC’s are
In West the ones by far
Who follow Christ and stand
For Jesus’ merry band.

So he, as RC guy,
Depicts what seems a lie –
That RC’s bear the brunt
Of blame for Nazi stunt.

But then goes on to say,
It’s complex in a way;
Broad sections of our life
Conspired to yield this strife.

For only when that’s grasped,
Are we set free at last
To change the factored base,
To yield a better space –

A better place to stay –
“It had to be?” No way!
So let us change today –
Those factors need not stay.

He quips that history,
When studied let’s us see
Alternatives, which then
With ugly pasts can blend –

To make a better mix –
Give rise to better pix;
Perhaps not paradise,
But overall, quite nice.
