“Levi The Stand-In?” [#24] (Matt.9:9-13; Mk.2:13-17; Lk.5:22-39)

So, two by two; then He calls one –
A man of strength, who right has won
To go alone into the night,
Not stopped, or shamed by inner fright?

I doubt it – maybe stood for one
Of four who on some errand’s run;
Note later how there’s often three,
With Andy absent – like we see –

Transfiguration – there was three;
Of course, as well, Gethsemane –
I’d say ’twas Andrew went AWOL,
Or ‘buried father’ ? Matthew’s call –

Perhaps was done to fill that gap;
Then he steps down when Andy’s back,
But joins the crew on second cut,
When four no longer was enough.

For mentoring (discipling) was
Christ’s process – done by Him because
He’d seen his cousin John struck down,
Then John’s disciples scattered ’round.

But four, then twelve, then seven-two,
’Till mentor-process reached out to
The other nations on the globe,
Like leaven lifts a mighty load.

But notice also leaven’s loaf –
Not righteous ones – a mix of both –
For we all need to the Savior’s touch,
To ease our load of sin and such.

So, “Farm Team” – Jesus had reserves
To call upon and thus preserve
The process – sometimes folks get sick,
Or walls fall down – “Replacement, quick!”
