“Dropped Into Our Future” [#22] (Matt.8: 23-9:28)

Spirit-walking through the night,
Obstacles on left and right;
Storms sweep in across the lake,
We walk on, for Jesus’ sake.

Make a choice – for herds or life –
For a neighbor’s daily fight;
Jesus spooked your herd – they’re dead,
But your neighbor lives – you said –

“Leave our neighborhood alone;
Herd’s collateral for loan;
All my income’s in the drink –
What should I, sweet Jesus, think?”

“Sure I’ll leave your messed up town;
Pigs with spirits now are drowned;
Neighbors’ terror now is past –
Sounds sustainable at last.

“I could help rebuild your life;
Windswept, empty pen’s not right;
Take your neighbors in tonight –
Work together, share your might.

“But, I’m leaving, as you asked;
Terror in these men’s now passed;
Economics of your scheme?
Better now than they have been”.

Who knows what Christ said that day,
Rowing out across that bay,
Midst the bodies of the pigs,
Heading home to his own digs.

Contrast that with scene that night –
Four brought one – they had to fight,
Struggle, to break through the crowd,
But by others not allowed.

So they climbed up on the roof;
Jesus laughed – was not aloof
As He watched them drop their friend,
Through a hole, then rooftop mend.

“Now, that’s faith! – No swineherds there!”
You assessed – two scenes compared –
“Do some damage, break on through –
Herds prefer? Which would you do?

“Hey kid, get up off your mat;
Sin’s forgiven – ’magine that!
Life ahead’s free – like those guys
I set free beneath the skies –

“Take this chance; be on your way;
Friends of faith brought you today;
Take their faith and make it yours –
Life in heaven such faith secures.

“As for all the rest of you,
Authorized by God are you –
Go and set My people free
From constricted lands, like Me.”

Thanks Lord, for this.
