“Messing With The Distance Come” [#25] (Matt.9:14-38; Mk. 2:18-3:12; Lk. 5:33-6:11)

When people come a distance on their life-improvement plan,
They tend to be quite touchy when a woman or a man,
Starts messing with tradition (that’s the way I got to here),
Because it represents their pain once messy life came clear.

So Jesus said, “Don’t mess with it, leave well enough alone;
Like wine and patches – old is good – like in our family homes;
There’s lots out there who need new wine and patches for their holes,
So focus on the ones unreached, adjust your outreach goals”.

And then He demonstrated with His raising up that kid;
The bleeding woman fixed at once; and blind their blindness rid;
The mute-one spoke with demon gone; the crowds were blown away;
He turned to His disciples, said, “For harvesters now pray!”.

For lots need help, like wondering sheep, lost coins, loss sons as well;
Don’t worry ’bout the rescued ones, no longer they now dwell
In land of darkness, shadow passing over them with death –
Take on the needs of those still lost, old wine for old is best.

Said Pharisees, “Not good enough – the letter of the law,
Must be obeyed, to heck with them, we in the Scriptures saw
What Moses said – the steps to walk to life from living hell –
So that’s the way, we do insist, to start up living well.”

On boats; on land; towns far away He worked from dawn ’till dusk;
He helped the folks who sought His aid, who in Him put their trust;
The others He left sipping wine – old wine which they preferred,
And carried on discipling those He’d chosen – undeterred.

That was the time when Jesus shifted gears to twelve from four;
He’d worked with four for quite some time, but now to train some more –
“So, pray God sends us harvesters, the crop in field is ripe;
I’ll show you how to mentor them, and send them out in might.”
