“The Problem With Choices” [#20C] (Matt. 7:15-23)
Two doors we meet back at the first
Of any journey – then we burst
Upon the scene all keen and bright,
Through either door – both dark or light.So growth is not a sign of life;
Be careful – some will say, “I’m right” –
Majority, in fact will glow
When easy gate and road they know.Two crops of green blow in the wind;
Two trees, long lives, at first begin
As small and fragile, build their rings
From inner core – survival sings –Of choice made right back at the first –
Two Gates, two roads, down which both burst;
But it’s not harvest time as yet,
And fruit’s the point – best not forget.For crops of grain out in the sun,
Through summer days have just begun
To form their heads – or not – we see
At harvest time how much there’ll be.And as for trees – that can take years
Before a crop of fruit appears,
But only then we’ll know if choice
Is cause for party or remorse.Talk’s cheap and easy for us all;
Our teachers, guides, look straight and tall;
But what’s their type – more, inwardly?
Check out their fruit – see what we’ll be.Thus Jesus cautions from the first,
Be wary now – you hunger, thirst,
For food to nourish rapid growth –
Two trees you’ll find – with food from both.Fruit’s not a show of mighty powers,
Of demons driven, yet fruit that sours
Upon our lips – bad taste it’s got –
Words in Christ’s name, but not from God.Is this one walking with the Lord?
A Spirit-walker in the Word,
Who knows the Lord, is known by Him –
Who listens close fore s/he begins?For useless trees are blown away –
They flourish fast and have their day,
But in the end yield bitter fruit –
Get out of there – give them the boot.Do they give life, or suck it in?
That’s basic sign – when they begin
To show their fangs – “Let’s dinner do –
You be the lunch – too bad for you”.These days there’s lots of mentoring,
And that is good – discipling
Is how Christ worked, taught us to work –
Just don’t get mentored by a jerk.navigation
