“Feast Of Booths” [#23] (Jn5:1-47)

For us it would be autumn time when they
Made booths to sleep in for a week – by day
They celebrated times now past and gone,
When tents were how they lived as they moved on.

So Jews went to the festival in town;
There met a man whose countenance was down,
For he had need of healing – he was slow –
For forty years he tried to waters go –

When they were shaking (earthquake we would say?)
So Jesus brushed concerns like that away –
“Get up, go home, and take along your mat –
No sense in leaving it around like that”.

But then he got in trouble from the good
And righteous (in themselves), who understood
That Sabbath was for resting up work
In days that followed – so they went berserk –

And told the man, “Your sin – to work today
Is not allowed, and so for this you’ll pay”;
“Give me a break – that guy just made my day,
Then told me not to sin, and walked away.”

So then they called up Jesus on the mat,
And asked Him if and why He would say that;
So Jesus walked them through the way He thought,
And how, in God, He saw the things He taught.

“As Spirit-walker – that is how I live”,
He said to them, “that’s reason that I give –
I see God act, and do it, point for point;
He works on Sabbath – so do I – anoint –

Your heads with oil – authority take up
From God, a way to live that’s not so rough;
Let Him fulfill your righteousness in-deed,
As you, in Him, respond to people’s needs.

For harvest time is here – it’s feast of booths!
Go back to Scripture, listen for the truths
Which Moses and the others shared with you;
Then enter in – do what they say to do.

“So boogie with the Father – Spirit-walk,
And as you live with Him, then Spirit-talk,
And you will find your life on planet earth,
Explodes to life – like this man’s second birth.
