Straight Shooter [#14] (Matthew 5:33-37)

Two aspects of a yes or no stand out for me this day –
A yes means yes and no means no, there’s not much else to say;
For both are aspects of one’s love, and both express it well,
If no is not there on the dial, then life’s a living hell –

Old Abraham was “yes” and “give”, he had no “no”, or “take”;
Called “Mr. Generosity” who could a fortune make;
But Isaac saw right through his ways, but could not tell him, “no”
Was part of life, and “take” as well, ’till crisis-day God showed –

Him all about restraint as love (close call for Isaac there!)
Then Abe went down the mountainside alone without a care;
For Isaac was freed up to learn “yes” from Melchizedek
And both had “yes-no”, “give” and “take”, both lives were less a wreck.

The second aspect of this part is basis of our words –
For yes and no can both arise from things we’ve seen and heard
In prayer-time, that we have received, and asked for as received –
A yes or no from out of that is given now with ease.

Or if we are involved with Him in what we’ve asked Him do
For us, while we are all mixed up with Him, His point of view;
A yes or no that comes from that is easy to be straight,
For we’re involved with Christ himself – straight talk for heaven’s sake.

“Be circumspect” is good advice in all we say or do;
Shoot straight the puck into the net, or pass it off to you;
For in these paneled boards the game is tighter, faster paced,
When we deal honestly with each one in the human race.

Thanks Lord, for this.
