On Stepping Out

When it’s time to launch a project, take a step out from the past,
It’s a challenge for we’re newbies, we don’t know if it will last;
We’re afraid of our own shadows, all that’s changed arouses fear,
We get spooked and need assurance, those around us need to cheer.

I’m like that – in that position – at the start before the race –
Tossing sweats, I shake out muscles, focus on my starting pace;
In the stands are lots of people, only some will cheer for me;
But no race is to the swiftest, things emerge for all to see.

For each race in competition is a part of larger scene,
And each race has its own context, what’s ahead and what has been;
But the gravel of this racetrack, starting blocks set up for me,
View ahead, tensed for the gunshot, frame this burst of energy.

When each race is done, I’m starting – training for the race ahead;
Runners run a lot of races, through career paths where they’re led;
Situations change the challenge, but the challenge is the fun;
Here I am, in this position – starting now this race to run.

Thanks Lord, for this.
