The Techno-Cove

The world has changed as years flowed by
(Least now they flow, not whirl and fly,
Like pre-last Christmas time or so –
Now “Double-weeks, days, months” I know).

But friendship also starts to change
As people shift, and rearrange
Their ways of doing life – go south,
And Net replaces word-of-mouth.

Now, “being” more than “doing” counts;
And cyclic-celebration mounts
To highlights of the daily round –
New friends in auld acquaintance found.

My grandma said one time at lunch,
“I’ve friends in heaven – in fact, a bunch
More than I know here in this place,
Amongst the living human race”.

I’d never thought that jealousy
Would be a part of life for me,
At least, since teenage years gone by
Where pressured-peers let friendships die –

But now with platforms’ shifting ways,
From face-to-face to techno-days,
Friends fall between the cracks so fast,
Beached in some techno-cove of past.

So when I hear a hint that one
Has friends (that’s plural), it’s no fun
To look around my world and see
This techno-cove with beach and me.
