Tithing In A Small Town (Matthew 6 1-4; Luke 21:1-4)

In giving, never bunch it up,
Or give into a beggar’s cup
The whole of what you ought to give,
For in this town you have to live.

“Right hand from left”; “the widow’s mite”;
Give gifts to God (for God), just like
He said to us, “In secrecy;
In giving gifts let no man see”.

There’s some who watch what others give;
That’s fine – that’s how they choose to live;
But give in that reality –
Be secretive as you can be.

So spread your bank accounts around;
Give cash and gifts without a sound;
Decoy your acts so they can’t see;
“Skin-Flint” appear, through secrecy.

Who cares? It matters not one wit –
No one’s deprived to because of it;
Don’t give through income tax receipt –
(And thus not tax-supply deplete).

To give is central to our life –
Unplugs the flow of Giver-types
(For all, but for the Giver-gift
It’s critical – gives life a lift).

In this small town where each one knows
What others do, your giving shows;
In global village now as well –
Give in the shadows – never tell.

God loves a cheerful giver – sure;
Giving in secret will secure
Reward from heaven – it’s no one’s biz
But yours and God’s what gifts you give.
