Hopeful Comfort (Isaiah 40:1ff; Matthew 5:4)
Go comfort, comfort those who mourn –
Relief, it comes, the Lord has sworn,
Who’s carried us through depths of hell
That all might in the end be well.Lord, mourning sometimes comes with grief;
When from our pain we seek relief;
But deepest, toughest mourning load
Is mourning others’ chosen road –When that’s a road which should not be;
And that’s a trial they should not see;
Sometimes a loss to which they’ve moved,
But often not – yet heart’s not soothed.Lord You’re aware of all our grief;
The hurt in all of us You see;
You watch us enter unawares
The trials for us which You’ve prepared –Where even folks without Your life
Within, acknowledge in such night,
There is no hope without Your grace;
Or miracle; or Angel’s face.This woman now aspires in Thee
To give her life, and yet we see
A close acquaintance with such loss,
Is cost of life with such a cross.Lord for Your grace within her life
We pray this day – keep her from strife
Beyond capacity to bear,
As through her life You show Your care.We thank You Lord for being here;
For drawing from her, hopeful tears
For all the folks she’s drawn to help,
As she in You denies herself.Bring this young woman to a team;
Together let their lives then seem
To rise on Eagle’s wings as one –
Explosive joy in You – such fun!navigation
