“Buying Time”

“Buy me some time here, friend,” he said,
“For if you don’t, then I’ll be dead,
Just like a duck on cool lagoon –
(So) by me some time – it gives me room.

“There’ll be solutions to all this;
They’ll get along in perfect bliss;
You push this issue now, my friend,
You’ll see my lift-off’s sudden end.”

That’s classic “Giver” – vintage class;
Concept of time – “Hold off – let pass;
Keep cards you play close to your vest;
Delay decisions; Dodge each test.”

Question he asked, as I recall,
“How long for you? – this order’s tall.”
No record kept of your reply –
“Buy me some time”, came by-and-by”.
