Dawn (Again)
Now pink from the streetlight meets blue from the dawn,
And warmth flows from covers of bed I lie on,
I think I would like to continue my snooze,
But then I get thinking, “That’s how we could lose”.When pink from the dawning of sun in the sky,
Meets blue of the heavens, I say with a sigh,
“It’s time I arose and sat down on the seat
Up there by the window, as new day I greet.”I’m liking my perch with its desk-window view –
Like Sandy, Keewatin, a bit Redvers too,
As I can look outward and see seasons change,
Those forces of nature which now rearrange –Our lives with the force of a hurricane-five,
Before which we hunker down, staying alive;
But no work gets done ’till the storm clouds move on –
’Cept this time it’s climate-shift changing my song.It’s happened before, like when learning to walk,
Far fewer the hugs – then when learning to talk –
That meant off to school with new trauma in store;
And then came the teen-years – sea-changes galore.Then marriage, and family, and shifts in career;
The growth in the Spirit which swept away fear;
Replaced it with faith, which matured deep within
My life – now I sense that’s where I must begin.For life that’s maturing brings with it old age –
A crap-shoot if ever there was one, some rage –
For some it means autumn with bright colored leaves,
For others it’s gray – testing all one believes.I see now the dawning has shifted again,
To overall lightness – low pleasure, low pain;
Dear Lord, as I enter the work force this morn,
Grace all of us children who’ve long since been born.The challenge this morning as take-off transpires,
And tree-line is nearing, co-pilot inquirers
If we should be rising, on short field or not –
I say hold it steady, raise speed that we’ve got.For just in a moment or two we’ll pull up,
Converting our ground-speed and clear the treetops;
Nerve-racking it can be – alternative’s worse –
This way has a future, that’s why we rehearsed.For this time it’s real, all that’s past’s thrown away;
No load is important as we face this day;
Now dawning has happened and we’ve been set free,
It’s time to move forward – then upward we’ll be.Thanks, Lord.
